The Philippines’ Liter of Light is joining the pre-COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Milan, Italy, bringing with it the Human-Powered Messages of Hope project.

The Filipino-born global grassroots initiative led by its founder Illac Diaz is representing the country in the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) co-hosted by Italy and the United Kingdom convened by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) scheduled for November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ahead of the summit, the solar lighting movement launched its Human-Powered Messages of Hope to COP26 on Twitter to urge the public to act now to arrest climate change.

Diaz and his team are calling for netizens to post tweets to raise awareness on climate change and the possible solutions to the worldwide environmental problem.

Tweets tagging the Human-Powered Messages of Hope to COP26 will be formed into solar billboards in Italy and Scotland.

The 2021 Human-Powered Messages of Hope traces its beginnings to the 2020 Good Light Messages of Hope, a COVID-19 lockdown project of the Liter of Light with its media partner GoodNewsPilipinas.com.

While the Philippines went under strict quarantine in 2020, Diaz and his family created large-scale solar messages in their home’s driveway which were lit at night. The messages were sent to GoodNewsPilipinas.com from Filipinos across the Philippines who wanted to motivate others to survive the pandemic.

The large-scale solar installations were made from hand-built solar lamps that were intended for donation to energy-poor communities in the country and around the globe.

The solar messages series later transitioned to solar art designed by Diaz and installed in various locations in the Philippines, including the UN SDG logos, and called for Filipinos to be climate heroes.

The number of solar lights used in the solar art installations also grew as celebrities, ordinary Filipinos, and the youth volunteered their time while in quarantine to create the Liter of Light lamps for the Light it Forward Challenge, a social movement that earned an Asia Pacific innovation award.

Here’s How to Send Your Messages of Hope to COP26 to be Made Into Large-Scale Solar Installations:

WE WANT YOUR HELP TO MAKE THE LARGEST MESSAGES OF HOPE IN THE WORLD

We started in our driveway, and now we want to scale it a thousand times bigger. We want your help to inspire others!

Building on the success of our award-winning Light It Forward campaign, Liter of Light is launching its newest project: Human-Powered Messages of Hope.

We want you to send us your Twitter-style messages that we will turn into large solar-powered billboards to share your hopes and dreams for the future.

We will be taking over village parks, helicopter pads, and public parks to share your Messages of Hope.

How does it work?

Simple – all you need to do is:

Come up with your Twitter-sized message, then
Share your message with us by tagging us on Instagram @literoflight, Facebook (https://ift.tt/UIps92), or Twitter (@MessagesToCOP26)
Make sure to include the hashtags #MessagesofHope #TwitterforGood #MessagesToCOP26 Each message will work like Twitter – you can make your message with up to 212 characters, but we computed that most messages will be about 35 characters long.

We will choose a message each week and install them in key areas of the cities and communities where we live.

Because of existing health and safety protocols, all of the Messages of Hope will be built with ONLY 3-10 adult artists using our hand-built solar lights. The public will not be allowed in the actual venues.

The installations can be viewed online through videos taken by a drone.

We feel that with everything that is going on in the world, we all could use some good vibes.

Stay tuned to learn which message we will unveil each week – we want you to interact with us and share how you contributed to our human-powered messages of hope.
