Sad Reality, however, the Ombudsman is not exempt from allegations of corruption ~SHARE
There are allegations that the Ombudsman is running only after the political enemies of former President Benigno Aquino III.
For instance, in one of the interviews of Senator Jingoy Estrada, he said that almost all Senators got DAP and PDAF but the Ombudsman never went after the allies of the Liberal Party.
If what Senator Estrada said is true, then one can conclude that the Ombudsman is being used as a political weapon by the Liberal Party.
The Ombudsman is a very powerful but no one polices them. How will we know if there wrongdoing if no one checks on them?
Based on this premise, I can say that President Duterte is correct and they too should be investigated to avoid the abuse of their power.
Because of this recent development, Presidential Spokesperson Ernie Abella said this about President Duterte's remarks.
Abella said, "We recognize that the Office of the Ombudsman has the constitutional duty to probe erring government officials."
"As the protector of the people, the OMB is expected to act promptly on complaints filed against officers or employees of the government."
"The sad reality, however, is that the OMB is not exempt from allegations of corruption, which the President said, need to be investigated."
"The OMB should be open to any probe that would check into alleged corrupt practices amongst its officials and employees to underscore that there are no sacred cows in the Government."
Do you agree with President Duterte's move to have the Ombudsman also investigated?
