BJMP Conducted Surprise Drug Test for Top Officials. Did They Catch Anyone? ~Share

On the 06th of October 2017, the BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) held a surprise drug test among its top officials.

The surprise drug test to all regional directors and key officers of the BJMP was ordered by Acting Chief, BJMP Jail Chief Superintendent Deogracias C Tapayan.

The surprise test was done in the late afternoon of October 6, 2017.

The BJMP top brass is attending the Operations Plan and Budget for CY 2018 Writeshop when the surprise drug testing was announced.

Ninety-six personnel underwent drug testing which was administered by the Health Service Unit of the National Headquarters.

"The drug test is part of our serious campaign to eradicate illegal drugs in jails”, said Tapayan.

“Let this be a validation of our firm stance and commitment to eradicate not only corruption but also illegal drugs in our facilities", he added.

While the surprise drug test yields negative results, Tapayan reminded the top level officials of the agency that he will not think twice in filing criminal and administrative cases against those who will be found to be involved in the illegal drug trade.

“It will be difficult for me to see you inside jail cells but I will send you there if necessary”, Tapayan emphasized.

Surprise drug test among inmates and personnel is one of the main programs of the BJMP in combating illegal drugs in jails.

Meanwhile, Tapayan commended the personnel of BJMP SICA 1 in Taguig after a female inmate visitor identified as Maxima dela Cruz was caught with five sachets of suspected marijuana and 85 sticks of cigarettes hidden inside her private parts yesterday.

“Key officers of the agency must set an examples to their subordinates. But more than having this kind of activity, remain steadfast in encouraging them to remain vigilant against those who have evil plans to sneak contrabands in our facilities particularly illegal drugs” explained Tapayan.

The facility is now facilitating the filing of appropriate charges against the female visitor. ###
