President Rody Duterte was right about the connection between drugs and crime.

Because drugs have been suppressed, crimes like murder, homicide, rape, theft etc. were reduced and as a result, neighborhoods are now safer and peaceful.

The Philippine National Police said the murder trend has dropped by 7.98 percent or 554 cases, according to the latest crime data from the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) headed by Police Director Augusto Marquez Jr.

DIDM’s Crime Research and Analysis Center (CRAC) revealed that the data is based on the comparison of total murder cases in the period of January to August 2016 and January to August 2017 which posed at 6945 and 6391, respectively.

P/Dir Marquez added that of the total number, murder has accumulated 8.41% of the total of Index Crime Distribution covered January to August 2017.

The DIDM director also said murder incidents nationwide went down due to PNP’s intensified campaigns and focused actions against criminality, corruption, and illegal drugs.

Theft, on the other hand, is the most prevalent crime inched to 24,825 or 32.65% to the total of Index Crime Distribution of the same period, Unit Crime Periodic Report (UCPER) showed.

UCPER, a crime information system, said theft cases have significantly declined by 10,911 or 30.53%, from 35,736 to 24,825 of the same period covered.

DIDM reports also bared that before President Rodrigo Roa Duterte assumed his post, the murder trend has already ramped up to 1,265 incidents compared to the 803 cases from June to July 2016. (PNP-Public Information Office)
