9-Year-Old Boy Works as Mascot to Help Mom, Walks 10 km Every Day

A 9-year-old boy works as mascot to help his mother – and that meant walking 10 km every day to entertain the crowd. Though his situation is difficult and makes him feel tired, the young boy said that he is happy doing it because he knows that it would help lessen his mother’s burden.

The kid was identified as Rehan, 9 years old. He lives in Indonesia with his mother. Though his mom actually has a job, her pay is not enough to provide for the family’s needs. So, Rehan decided to help out by working as a mascot because he earns good money from this job.

Wearing different costumes each day, the young boy walks to busy Jalan Gatot Subroto in South Kalimantan for about 10 km. He picked a good spot on the side where he could entertain drivers stuck in traffic or workers in nearby offices.

Knowing that he has to draw the passersby’s attention, the young boy would perform tricks or try acts like doing a little jogging so they would watch him.

He also uses different costumes for variety, transforming into cartoon characters like Tom and Jerry, Spongebob Squarepants, Upin and Ipin, and Dora the Explorer.

Because he lives far, the young boy admits that he often leaves home at dawn to reach the spot before it is too hot for him to walk. This gives him plenty of time to work and earn enough to start walking home by mid afternoon so he could still play a game of football with his friends.

The 9-year-old kid admits he receives enough to meet their daily needs and allows him to have some money left for his school fees which he “deliberately sets aside” to ensure he could go to school. He also earns enough to buy rice on his way home and pay for the rental fees for their home.

Such a long list of things that a 9-year-old kid pays for with his salary! We surely hope he wouldn’t have to do this so he could focus more on school and staying safe at home…
