UP College of Law wins After Jessup International Moot Court Competition
The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law team was declared champion of the ‘After Jessup’ International Moot Court Competition.
The UP Law Jessup team bested their South African competition in the finals of the virtual tournament organized by the International Association of Law Schools in cooperation with the International Law Students Association.
The UP Diliman College of Law report on September 11, 2020, said that the Jessup Team’s championship title came with an award of $500 to be given to the University’s Jessup program.
The UP College of Law team represented the Philippines after winning the National Jessup Cup at the Manila leg of the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court. The same team won the After Jessup Aisa-Pacific rounds in August before clinching its After Jessup International Championship.
The After Jessup tourney gave the world’s best qualifying Jessup national teams an opportunity to compete internationally amid the Covid-19 pandemic after the 2020 Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition International Rounds scheduled to be held in April in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. was canceled.
The UP Law champion team is composed of Team Captain Leslie Diane Torres with members Abelardo Hernandez, Anton Miguel Sison, Therese Ravina, and Bianca Isabella Ortiz. Prof. Rommel Casis served as the team’s coach and moderator. He was assisted by Lee Edson Yarcia, Gemmo Fernandez, and Marianne Vitug.
International Championships won by the UP Law include the Stetson Annual International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition and the Oxford UK Moot Court.
