After Refusing to Lend Php1k, Baby’s Ninang Told to Pay for Food She Ate at Christening

After refusing to lend Php1,000 for the child’s diapers, a woman was told that she had to pay for the food she ate at a christening! Ooooops.

Although the godparents are supposed to be the child’s second parents, Filipinos have this notion that godparents are supposed to be there for the gifts. The more godparents your children have, the more gifts they will receive.

For many Filipinos, giving gifts is a must for ninangs and ninongs during Christmas, birthdays, christenings, and other special occasions.

What’s sad, however, is that there really are people who think that giving gifts is an obligation for these godparents – and they should count every Christmas and birthday as debt should they be unable to give any gift to their godchild!

One woman tried to borrow Php1,000 from her baby’s ninang to buy diapers. The ninang didn’t have extra cash. She gently reminded her friend that the latter still owes her Php1,500.

Yung 1,500 marshie papasko mo na yun sa inaanak mo. Wala nang singilan,” the woman replied. The baby’s mom also added that the ninang has a lot of money, anyway.

The ninang stood her ground, telling the baby’s mother that Christmas is still far away. Besides, even if she gives the Php1,500 for free, borrowing Php1,000 is still too much just for diapers.

This angered the baby’s mom who called her selfish. The woman also told her that she now owes a lot to her godchild.

The woman also bitterly pointed out that she never visits her goddaughter or attend her birthday party, but she went to another godchild’s party and even brought nice gifts!

Angry for being told off, the baby’s mother replied that she regrets picking her as ninang and now wants her to pay for the food she ate at the christening! Tsk. Tsk.
