Family Eats Noodles Stored in Freezer for 1 Year, Loses 9 Members within Hours

Nine people from one family lost their lives after eating noodles that were put in the freezer for nearly 1 year. The police believe that foul play is not involved in this incident, especially because all the adults were lost, but it is possible that they had no idea that the food could still become rotten even if it is stocked in the freezer.

The incident happened when Jixi City, Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province as one family celebrated a special occasion. They enjoyed homemade corn noodle soup at the family gathering, but three of the youngest kids refused to eat the noodles because they thought the taste is strange.

All the adults and the older kids ate the corn noodles but fell sick just hours after eating. The family of twelve began losing its members one by one, with only the three kids surviving the incident. It was a good thing they were picky eaters!

Most of the family members perished at their house just hours after eating the corn noodles. Though a 47-year-old woman managed to survive at the hospital for a few days, she eventually lost her battle to the food poisoning. The three kids were left orphans by the incident.

What should have been a happy family gathering ended up in tragedy for this family. Police investigating the case saw no signs of foul play. It is believed that the family did not think the food would go bad because they put this in the fridge.

However, since the food item had been prepared last year, bacteria had already grown inside the fermented noodles even if it was frozen in the fridge. Investigators found large amounts of bongkrekic acid, a respiratory toxin from bacterium pseudomonas cocovenenans, in the leftover noodles and the gastric fluids of all the victims.

The provincial health commission also released an advisory for people to stop eating food that’s been left in the fridge for over a week – and definitely discard something that’s been in the fridge for nearly 1 year!
