9-Year-Old Kid Praised for Returning Pouch Containing Php32k, Bank Documents
A lot of people are tempted to keep money and valuables that they find, especially when no one is looking – and most especially when it involves a big sum of money or a very valuable thing. Yet for a 9-year-old kid in Ifugao, honest is the best policy even when there’s no one around.
Gernan Jay Garcia, 9 years old and a Grade 4 student at Alfonso Lista Central School from Alfonso Lista in Ifugao, recently went viral for his impressive deed. The Filipino community is praising him for his integrity, especially because no one knew that he found that pouch containing Php32,000, some important bank documents, and ID cards.
It might be the Christmas season and he could have a lot of toys with that money, some food also, yet this boy chose to do the right thing. He knew that the money was not his and that someone could be really troubled after losing his valuables.
So, Gernan went to the police station accompanied by a relative to turn over the pouch that he found last December 21. Amazed by what he did, the Pnp Ifugao Alfonso Lista shared his story on their social media page. They also shared a quote:

A day after Gernan turned over the pouch to the police station, the owner came to pick it up. The items were released after he provided proof of identification. He praised the boy for his honesty and gave him some money as reward for his good deed.
Kudos to this young boy! A lot of people would have just pocketed that money…
