Stray Dog Chases after Passing Motorcycle Rider, Leads Him to Newborn Baby at Dumpsite
A stray dog is being hailed as hero in the municipality of Sibonga, Cebu, after it helped rescue a newborn baby left at the dumpsite by its parents.
According to the local police report, Junrell Fuentes Revilla was just passing through the dumpsite in the mountain barangay of Magkagong, Sibonga, at around 11AM last December 24 when he was chased by a dog.
But Junrell was puzzled because the dog appears to be communicating something to him. It was chasing him, yet it sounded friendly and didn’t appear to be trying to bite him as he passed.
Curious, the motorcycle rider decided to check what the dog was trying to tell him. He stopped the motorcycle and followed the dog as it ran towards a grassy area at the dumpsite. Junrell was shocked to find a baby wrapped in a brown towel, left alone on the ground.
He immediately called the police to the location. According to Police Master Sergeant Venus Tampos of the Sibonga Police Women and Children Protection Desk, it is highly likely that this is a newborn baby because part of his umbilical cord was still attached to his navel.
The baby was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office as the police continues to investigate the incident.
The police are calling on the newborn baby’s mother to take responsibility of the baby. They are also urging the public to report any information they might have regarding the incident or if they knew someone who recently gave birth but no longer has a baby with her.
Tampos added that the police had recently gone on a house-to-house campaign to speak to young residents about teenage pregnancy; thus, they were worried over this incident.
