Top #1 of March 2021 Physician Board Exams Nearly Failed Med School’s Entrance Test
With a score of just 55 percentile, Jeremiah Dimapeles Lim nearly failed the entrance test for med school. Most schools require at least 75 or even as high as 80 to 90 before a student can be enrolled for the medicine course to become a doctor; though the cut off score is 40.
Despite the low score, Lim was able to enroll and even obtain a scholarship at Far Eastern University – Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) in Novaliches, Quezon City. The scholarship was important because his parents could not afford to send him to med school.
“Noong nag NMAT ako sobrang baba ng score ko 55 lang ayaw akong tanggapin ng mga med school kasi ‘di abot sa cutoff ng med school. ‘Di afford ng family ko ang ganong kalaking tuition,” Lim recalled.
“Simula sa pagiging normal na estudyante pinilit ko mag aral hanggang makatapos ng med school bilang scholar.”
But he worked hard to improve his grades and make the most of his time in school so he could keep his scholarship. Thankfully, he was able to maintain those grades and graduate from med school.
Lim surprised everyone when he topped the board exams for physicians! After all, he almost didn’t make it to med school because of his low NMAT score!
His parents did not even expect that he would become a doctor, yet here he is, a topnotcher! He garnered a rating of 89.67% and obtained the highest score out of the 1,234 new doctors who passed the Physician Licensure Exams (PLE). Amazing.
“Di nila in-expect na makakapagpaaral sila ng doktor kasi hindi nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral ang magulang ko kaya sobrang laking bagay nito sa pamilya namin,” he explained, adding that his parents own a small bakery and sari-sari store in Pagbilao, Quezon.
He now plans to work at Philippine General Hospital so he can help a lot of poor patients who needed medical attention.
