Forty chocolatiers in Spain’s Basque Country gathered together to create a giant chocolate cake inspired by Pablo Picasso’s painting Guernica.
This painting is a famous masterpiece of Picasso — an oil painting on canvas which he created in 1937.
Based on Pablo Picasso website, Guernica is Picasso’s most powerful political statement. It was named after the Guernica town located in the Basque Country. On April 26, 1937, the town had experienced a two-hour warplanes bombing.
The artwork depicts the sufferings of innocent individuals during the Nazi’s casual devastation in Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.
Many believe that this mural-size painting is an anti-war symbol of Picasso.
To celebrate the 85th anniversary of this historical event, the group of chocolatiers in Basque recreated the masterpiece into a giant chocolate cake.
Amazingly, the giant cake stands 3.5 meters tall and 8 meters wide.
This recreation was made meticulously with high attention to details from the chocolatiers.
