This Folkloric Art Exhibit focuses on promoting cultural identity. As shared by the curator of the exhibit, John Melvin Garcia, they came up with this theme to showcase through visual arts, the folk traditions and beliefs inculcated by our ancestors. He emphasized that these teachings from our elderlies taught us to give respect to all creatures whether we can see them or not.

Garcia explained that the superstitious beliefs or pamahiin that were passed on by our ancestors are more than just beliefs which we had been following, but rather they are actions that drive us to take care and give respect to our environment. As an example, the pamahiin that was told to us to not cut trees because mythical creatures might get mad boils down to us conserving the nature.

The artists behind this exhibit are from the group Kampo Sining. They are local artists who came from Tarlac, Nueva Ecija Manila, Baguio, La Union and other places in Luzon. The group was formed in 2015, and Folkloric Art Exhibit is their second exhibit since they started. Some of the group members also won local and national competitions.

Garcia further shared how challenging it was to launch an art exhibit during this time of pandemic. They carefully took into account the availability of the artists, and made sure to follow safety protocols.

The group is very grateful for the support of those who believe in their talents, and have pushed them to continue the exhibit. One of their strongest support is Dr. Ron Allan Quimado, an art enthusiast and the owner of Kape Agape; a local community cafe in Anao, Tarlac.

The ongoing art exhibit is taking place in Kape Agape. This community cafe highly values youth empowerment and reinforcing arts for community development.

Kampo Sining likewise aspires to showcase more of their talent and artworks.
