De La Salle University-Dasmariñas leads 8 Philippine schools in Greenmetric Ranking

The number of Philippine higher educational institutions included in the UI Greenmetric WUR rose from 6 in 2020 to 8 in 2021.

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) continues to lead the Philippines’ higher educational institutions (HEIs) included in the Greenmetric World University Ranking for sustainable practice in schools.

Five universities in the 2020 edition of the Greenmetric Rankings namely, DLSU-D, De La Salle University Manila (DLSU), Mindanao State University Iligan Institute of Technology (MSUIIT), Xavier University Ateneo De Cagayan, and Ateneo de Davao University stayed on the Greenmetric Ranking while Manila Central University, Bataan Peninsula State University, and Tarlac Agricultural University joined the 2021 edition.

The Lasallian university in Cavite province maintained its top ranking for the 9th straight year in the Greenmetric Ranking edition for 2021 released on December 14 by the Universitas Indonesia which started the annual rankings in 2010 to measure each participating university’s commitment to developing an environmentally friendly university. DLSU-D joined the rankings in 2013.

The eight Philippine universities made it to the list of 956 universities from 80 countries included in the rankings that look at 6 indicators – setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation and education.

The 2021 ranking included metrics scoring the university’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic which kept most schools in the Philippines closed and shifting to alternative modes of learning off-campus.

DLSU-D is ranked 180th among the Greenmetric world universities list topped by the Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands. The greenest Philippine university ranked 85th out of 512 Asian universities led by Universitas Indonesia.

DLSU-D is the only university to break into the Top 200, making it the most sustainable university in the Philippines.

“DLSU-D is once again the leader among Philippine Universities in terms of sustainability – even during a pandemic – we can still be sustainable. I am proud to be from DLSU-D, I am proud to be ‘green’,” University Chancellor Br. Francisco “Sockie” dela Rosa VI FSC stated in the university report about the Greenmetric Rankings.

DLSU-D is a Green Gown Top 3 Sustainability Institution of the Year.
