The Quezon Memorial Shrine, a monument that honors the legacy of late President Manuel L. Quezon, has been declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP).

The memorial crafted by Filipino architect Federico Ilustre was officially named one of the nation’s cultural treasures through Museum Declaration No. 29-2020.

NMP defines “National Cultural Treasure” as a cultural property possessing outstanding historical, cultural, artistic, or scientific value that is significant and important to the nation.

The national shrine is considered the most significant landmark of Quezon City and houses Museo ni Manuel Quezon, a museum designed by Ilustre that features the life and political career of President Quezon. The memorial has an equilateral triangular base serving as the mausoleum of the late President and his wife, Aurora Aragon.

“Surmounting the base are three pylons measuring 66 meters in height, representing Quezon’s age upon his death and the three major islands of the Philippines. Above the pylons are Art Deco statues of three angels holding sampaguita funerary wreaths sculpted by Italian artist Francesco Riccardo Monti,” the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) described the monument.

The Quezon City government also confirmed the declaration in a press release dated December 27, 2021.

President Manuel L. Quezon’s legacy in helping the persecuted Jews is honored in the award-winning movie, “Quezon’s Game”.

The Quezon Memorial Shrine is the second NCT in the Quezon City after the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of La Naval de Manila at the Santo Domingo Church in Sta. Mesa Heights.

The Quezon Memorial Shrine is housed inside the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City, Metro Manila, where 12 restored Presidential cars are on showcase in a Philippine museum.
