Southeast Asia’s largest solar energy farm is rising in Nueva Ecija
Southeast Asia’s largest solar energy farm is rising on a former ranchland being developed by Solar Philippines Nueva Ecija Corporation.
The 500-megawatt (MW) solar power plant is located in Barangay Las Piñas, Sinasajan, and Peñaranda in Nueva Ecija in the Central Luzon region.
Solar Ranch is projected to have an approximately 10-km long, 230 kV transmission line from the project site to the Cabanatuan Substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
The corporation revealed in December 2021 its target for the first 50 MW in Peñaranda to start supplying solar power to the grid by the end of the year 2022. The solar company expects to create over 5,000 jobs during construction and over 500 jobs once the solar farm is operational.
The Nueva Ecija solar farm project development will have the initial 225MW divided into subphases with 50MWp that was announced to begin construction in 2021 and the balance to begin construction in 2022, upon securing project financing. The company plans to construct an additional 275MWp after commissioning the first phase.
Other solar farm projects in the Philippines include a state-of-the-art floating solar farm that is helping the Tawi-Tawi fishing community and a solar-powered irrigation system that Abra farmers have trained to maintain.
