Pisay leads four winning Philippine schools at International Physics Olympiad
Students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Ilocos Region Campus led four schools’ seven awards haul including one gold in the 2022 Newtonian International Physics Olympiad Challenge (NIPOC).
Filipino students from the PSHS – Ilocos Region Campus, Cebu City National High School (Sci-Hi), La Union National High School (LUNHS), and Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI) together bagged 1 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze awards in the world online competition organized by the Organizing Center for STEM Olympiad (OCSO).
The Filipino students from various schools competed amongst participants from over 20 countries in the competition which held its final round on March 5, 2022.
Leading the country’s delegation to the international olympiad is Geoff Jude Tapiru San Agustin from the PSHS-Ilocos Region Campus who scored this year’s gold award for the Philippines.
Another PSHS Ilocos student Amy Josiphia Abundo Manuel, Kiersten Candice Sy from Cebu City National High School, and Virgielyn Ann Jonuel Stevens from La Union National High School each won silver awards.
The bronze awardees are Julie Anni Shi from Pangasinan Universal Institute, and Carlos Jamiel Doctolero and Fitz Lord Owen Bumanglag, both from the PSHS-Ilocos Region Campus.
Here are the awards won by students from the Philippines in the 2022 NIPOC competition:
- Gold Award – Geoff Jude Tapiru San Agustin from Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus
- Silver Award – Amy Josiphia Abundo Manuel from Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus
- Silver Award – Kiersten Candice Sy from Cebu City National High School
- Silver Award – Virgielyn Ann Jonuel Stevens from La Union National High School
- Bronze Award – Carlos Jamiel Doctolero from Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus
- Bronze Award – Fitz Lord Owen Bumanglag from Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus
- Bronze Award – Julie Anni Shi from Pangasinan Universal Institute
Pisay students also brought home medals in the 17th International Geography Olympiad (iGEO 2021) held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Team Philippines earlier won three medals in the virtual edition of the 53rd International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Japan.
