Kiko Pangilinan Must Understand That Constitutional Reform Is Badly Needed
Okay, I agree that we need democracy but here's the problem of Kiko Pangilinan's argumetns. He says that the solution is not Charter Charge (or better known now as Constitutional Reform) but jobs, cheaper food, higher salary and not Cha-Cha. It's time to nail some common sense arguments. As a lawyer, he needs to hear himself talk first because he's messing things up. He should know better because he's a lawyer and I'm not.
So what's wrong with the 1987 Constitution? How can Kiko or should I call him Mr. Sharon Cuneta talk about having more jobs, cheaper food and higher salary when the current constitution is too restrictive to those needs? The 60/40 policy has restricted foreign investors which in turn caused supply-demand gap to get bigger and bigger.
How can there be more jobs if the current constitution keeps restricting foreign investors to only 40% except if they got special permission? He needs to answer the question can the government and all the Filipino businessmen (regardless of ethnicity) provide jobs for so many Filipinos? The number of Filipino businessmen vs. Filipinos looking for jobs is so huge. The oligarchy can only enslave not pay jobless Filipinos. Jobless Filipinos in turn end up going abroad because they can't find more jobs in their country.

Cheaper food? He should review the rules of supply and demand from his high school and College economics textbooks. If he wants to know why the prices of commodities are rising up then take a look at the supply/demand gap. If there's so little food and so many mouths to feed then prices will naturally go up. How can there be enough food for Filipinos if greedy oligarchs aren't even giving back the farmlands that aren't theirs? Hacienda Luisita anyone?
Does he realize that first world countries can pay much higher than the Philippines because they have a liberalized economy? He should check the salary rates of countries that practice economic liberalization vs. countries that practice protectionism. The Philippines can't afford higher pay because the economy can't afford it.
If he still wants to have more jobs, cheaper food and higher pay without the badly needed reforms then it's insanity. Insanity is doing the same stupid thing all over again while expecting different kinds of positive results.
