19-Year-Old Guy Rides Bike from Parañaque to Samar after Losing Job

A 19-year-old guy rode a bike from Parañaque to Eastern Samar after losing his job. He was already in Samar when he found help from kind frontliners who gave him provisions and called an ambulance to bring him to his hometown!

Peter Roncales is just 19 years old, but this young man was already working in Metro Manila before the COVID-19 crisis struck. But just like many unfortunate workers, Peter lost his job amid the crisis and had no other way to support himself in Metro Manila.

He spent 10 days on the road, braving the searing heat of the sun and the cold nights as he covered more than 800 km on his bike! The long journey, the lack of ample food and water, plus the fact that it rained the previous night left the young man exhausted as he reached the border between the towns of Can-avid and Taft, Eastern Samar.

At a checkpoint, frontliner Christian Evardone was amazed to learn about the young man’s impressive journey. Knowing that he is tired and hungry, they gave him food and water. They also let him rest while they tried to find a way to help him in the last leg of his journey.

At this point, Peter was already near his hometown but the frontliners knew he was already exhausted. After biking for over 800 km in the past 10 days, the young man clearly needed a lot of rest. So, they coordinated with the municipality of Oras to provide an ambulance to bring him home.

Naawa ako, naiyak na lang siya, pagod na pagod siya nang dumating sa checkpoint at basa dahil sa ulan kagabi,” Christian explained.

Thanks to these kindhearted frontliners, Peter was finally able to reach his hometown without having to use his bike. But it’s quite impressive how he was able to bike all those kilometers in just 10 days! He’s really determined to go home…
