Pinoy Family ‘Adopts’ Stranded American, Receives a New House as Gift

Filipinos have a reputation for being kind and generous, even to strangers in need, without asking for anything in return!

A couple in Toledo City, Cebu, recently received a new house as gift from an American vlogger who got stranded due to the COVID-19 crisis. He did this as his way of saying thanks to the poor but generous couple who did not hesitate to ‘adopt’ him.

Raymund and Reche Adoptante met 36-year-old Dustin Borglin back in 2016 when the American first visited their area. Dustin and Raymund bonded over a game of basketball.

Dustin enjoyed his visit to the Philippines so much that he would return to the country as part of his travels across the world. He arrived in the Philippines back in March 2020 but due to the COVID-19 crisis, he was unable to leave.

Stuck in Cebu, Dustin found help in Raymund and Reche who welcomed him to their home without asking for anything in return. They fed him and even taught him how to cook native Filipino food and local delicacies.

Reche said that they took pity on Dustin as he struggled to live with them, yet they never heard him complain. Instead, Dustin did his best to adapt to the situation and learn as much as he could.

Through vlogging, he began helping the little community around them. He went around the place to document the lives of the community and the ones who needed assistance – and help soon poured in for these people! His followers sent money to the people who needed help.

He also used his earnings on the vlogs to support the community, acting as an early Santa Claus to them all. And as token of his appreciation to the love shared to him by the couple, Dustin built them a new home!
